Swedz is the creation of DJ/Producers Lucas Börjesson and Emil Johansson. The duo, who are already receiving praise online, are working hard to be the next big act to emerge from Sweden’s talented EDM community.

Meeting in high school and bonding over their love of music, the two began recording under the Swedz name before signing a 3- year publishing deal with the Canadian publishing house Premier Muzik International in 2018. A year later, TGR Music Group/Sony Music picked up Money, a collaboration with fellow Swede KlaveBörjesson and Johansson also DJ under the Swedz moniker; playing international clubs such as Duplex and Double Trouble in Prague and Valand in Gothenburg.

In 2019, the duo were invited to play their first festival (where they met My Kicks collaborators Joe & The Anchor), and look forward to more opportunities to share their music live once restrictions ease.

2020 looks set to be even bigger for the duo, who are using their time off touring to create new music. Nights was released through Harmor Records in March and My Kicks – Swedz Remix through Sony Music Sweden in April. Further releases with exciting new collaborators are already being lined up and will be announced very soon.

Tell us how you develop your sound and style to make it different from other musicians.

We try to not get stuck in one genre to create more diversity in our music. Our inspiration comes from many different artists in various genres and we try to combine them in our music.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on the way new artists are coming up and the frequent release of songs.

We like that we’re currently in a time of the music business where you can release different styles of music and market them differently and that you’re not stuck in one genre the same way… As we said earlier we don’t want to get stuck in one genre and that is much more accepted today.

Artists are not as dependent on the labels today and that makes us get more power over our music. We still like working with labels because they possess an expertise that is difficult to find elsewhere but we are noticing a change in the deals that are being made.

.

.

.

Tell us about your experience as a musician/artist.

As two producers that have worked with music for a while now, we’ve noticed the extreme difficulty of making a living on music alone. We hope that the changes in the industry will make it easier for independent artists to earn enough from their music so there won’t be the need for a side job.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on streaming and digital download of songs.

It has played a key role in the changes in the industry that are currently happening.

.

.

.

Tell us your goals and plans.

Our goal is to be able to make a living from our music. Current plans are to release more new music during the Covid-19 restrictions since we can’t do any shows at the moment. We’re spending a lot of time in the studio to make new material and have a couple of really cool collabs that will be released during 2020.

.

.

Tell us your dream and hope for the future.

Our dream is to be able to work with music full-time and to tour the world, sharing our music with new and existing fans.

.

.

.

Tell us what has changed in the music industry.

In the EDM community, there have been many and fast changes in the sound that’s popular which is why we want to create different styles of music.

As we said before the artist’s influence in the industry is growing as it becomes easier to get your music heard, but that also creates more competition so it’s still not easy to blow up.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on television/radio stations playing the same songs from established artists and giving little chances to independent artists.
We think that good music deserves to be heard and radio stations should take that into consideration when they choose what music is getting played.

.

.

.

Tell us the challenges independent artists are facing and how to tackle them.

The biggest struggle is getting the music heard, you need good people that know how to create exposure and that is expensive. That’s why we still think that labels are needed because of their knowledge and influence to promote artists.

Share your press release and reviews with us.

Sweden’s next big pop act teams up with up-and-coming DJ/Producer duo Swedz to release the catchy single on April 17.

After connecting at Rookiefestivalen in Sweden, Joe & the Anchor reached out to Swedz over social media about remixing a track, and when the duo listened to My Kicks they were immediately inspired. After months of the remix bouncing back and forth between the two artists to perfect the sound, they are now ready to share it with the world.

With smooth vocals and a driving beat, the My Kicks -Swedz Remix brings the festival vibes – even if you’re isolating on your own, you can’t help but dance and sing along to the chorus. Young, fresh and energetic, the track is ready-made for summer.

The single is being released through Sony Music Sweden

Often compared to 5 Seconds of Summer, Joe & The Anchor (JATA) is a colourful, modern pop band from Malmö, Sweden. The band garnered a lot of attention with the release of their debut EP “Antidote” with Sony Music in 2019. The group has already performed at several big stages, venues, and festivals all over the country, including supporting Mando Diao at a sold-out Kulturbolaget in Malmö. With a strong visual style and polished production, Joe & The Anchor delivers modern pop with a unique touch and a passionate live show.

Tell us your opinion on using social media to promote music online.
It is a helpful tool to get exposure and TikTok has come with a major possibility for musicians to go viral. We use the social platforms mainly to create recognition for our faces/brand which is a long and challenging process, but as you grow you get more opportunities to create awareness…

TikTok is new to us but we’re working on a strategy to use it to our advantage.

Tell us about your music career.

Our first breakthrough was the song ”Swing”, which got picked up by the Spotify algorithms and is to this day our most-streamed song on Spotify, even though some of our new songs are closing in.

At the end of 2018, we signed a publishing deal with Finger Printz Music/Premier Muzik International and decided to release and market our music ourselves for 6 months which included releases like Conquer and the Eternity EP. We got good support on some tracks and was happy with the results.

In the summer of 2019, we released ”Money” together with our good friend and very talented producer Klave which was released through TGR Music Group/Sony Music Sweden. We continued producing a lot to prepare ourselves for 2020 and began the year by releasing ”Nights” through Harmor Records followed by our remix of My Kicks by Joe & The Anchor that was released through Sony Music Sweden.

We have many interesting projects that are being finalized and will be released in 2020.

.

.

Tell us what still motivates you to go on with your music career.

We are excited to see how far we can go and are working hard to get to the top. We want to influence people with our music and show artists that anything is possible.

.

Tell us about you as a person.

Two guys that come from simple lifestyles with big dreams and high ambitions. We spend a lot of time with our friends when we’re not in the studio and like to party and have adventures.

Elaborate on the story behind the song.

We met Joe & The Anchor during a festival we both played on in Hultsfred, Sweden. That got us connected and when we asked our followers on Instagram for songs to remix they responded and wanted us to remix My Kicks. After hearing the tune we were sold and started working.

.

.

.

Tell us the process involved in making this song.

We had a demo that we had intended for another acapella but the acapella from My Kicks fit very well so we decided to use that demo for the remix, after bouncing it back and forth with Joe & The Anchor a bunch of times we had a final version and Sony released it.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Swedz.

We choose that name to salute the amazing swedes in the EDM community such as Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, and Alesso. We hope to be part of the next generation of big players in the Swedish EDM community.
