Zandra Vibes started her career as a Pop singer under Alex Young, and then shocked the music scene with the release of her debut album “Amazing.” After taking a brief hiatus, Zandra Vibes returned to music embracing her most authentic self. She pulled away from the world of Pop to manifest something new. R&B/Soul fused with Trap elements layered over cosmic atmospheres and effects. Her music has a dark ambiance sprinkled with light vocals. Although it’s an alternative to R&B, it remains a vibe.

Musical Director on Lady Gaga’s world tour, Kern Brantley had this to say about Zandra Vibes:

“As a musical director, I have been fortunate to work with some of the top female artists in the world such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, Monica, and Faith Evans just to name a few. Upon meeting and working with Zandra Vibes, all I can say is here we go again! Zandra Vibes is the next generation of modern music.”

Zandra Vibes has proven that she is a true entertainer. Her commanding presence exploded onstage with her opening for Cee Lo Green at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida. Zandra Vibes was also featured as an opening act on the WBLS Summer Stage show in New York City as part of her summer tour. Zandra’s love of music and strong work ethic, coupled with A-list production teams and choreography is a proven formula for success.

Today, Zandra Vibes fills a whole new lane in the world of music entertainment and stands poised to explode on the global music scene.

Tell us your name, country of birth, and childhood experience.

My name is Zandra, and my childhood was filled with music. I feel very fortunate that music and art were so much a part of my environment growing up. I was born in New York, and live there now as a recording artist.

.

.

.

Tell us about your academic qualification.

I went to public school in New Jersey and then on to study at Sarah Lawrence College. I would record new songs and travel to perform in different parts of the country even while studying there. It was definitely a juggling act and I’m glad I get to focus solely on my music now.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music career, band name, experience, and skills.

Performance has always been a part of my life from a very early age. Performance is such a fascinating form of art to me and reminds me of the power it has to change mindsets and perspectives. Over the years I’ve gotten to perform as an opening act for artists like Cee Lo Green, Robin Thicke, Tamia, Kelly Rowland, and others.

I also got the chance to perform at SummerStage NYC and various club events around the country. Being able to share my music with others is what drives me and I feel so grateful that I’ve been able to do that using these platforms.

.

.

.

Tell us your genre and idea behind your music video or song.

My genre is alternative R&B and I have just released my latest single, “Don’t Wanna Leave.” During Covid-19, I released the Lyric video and asked my friends and community to film themselves lip-syncing to it. We spliced everyone together and it’s now up on YouTube as the official lyric video. It was definitely a fun and memorable experience getting everyone together in that way. During these times of self-isolation, I think it really helps to gather virtually to feel more connected.

.

.

.

Tell us how to run a record label based on your experience as an artist.

Resilience… I think it’s just about being resilient, resourceful, and staying open to being inspired. I believe being adaptable is also very important. Curveballs are always thrown and it’s about being able to land on your feet.

.

.

.

Tell us how you are promoting your music.

For promotion, I rely heavily on social media outlets. It’s amazing that we live in a time where it’s so easy to connect with so many different kinds of people all around the world, in an instant. I think it’s such a uniting force and if used in the right way, can truly benefit and enhance your business and life.

Explain the story behind the song.

The song, “Don’t Wanna Leave” is really about loving yourself unconditionally in the context of a relationship. It’s about being secure in knowing yourself and confident in your self-worth and the value you bring as an individual.

.

.

.

State the names of other members of your band, music producer, crew, or music video

I am a solo vocal artist and have been working with the very talented, Dwayne Moore and Charles Davids for music production. I have been working with Taj Jackson and Dre Lu on writing. I personally am a huge fan of the collaborative process and believe it brings so much life and nuance to projects. When different perspectives come together to create it makes it that much more exciting to me.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music business, your experience, and your future goal.

I’ve been singing since before I can remember and working on this current project for around two years now. The music industry is definitely an interesting business for sure. I think now more than ever it’s about ‘do it yourself’ techniques and creating your own platform to spread the music.

My ultimate goal would be to be performing around the world. I really love to travel and to be able to do that globally with my music would be a dream come true.

.

.

.

Tell us what makes you unique from others.

I hope my vocal tone is one of the things that separates me. Also, I always try to put positive intention into my music before and while I am creating it. There is so much turmoil in the world right now. I would love for my music to bring a bit of calm to people’s hearts and minds.

.

.

.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining to music.

I like to think of weaknesses more as things you are continuing to work on or just haven’t tried yet. I guess I’d have to say production. It’s not something I’ve spent a lot of time on at all but it would be amazing to be able to create the production for my music.

As for strength, I’d say my improvisation techniques. I studied jazz for a while and one of the things I’m most grateful for and learned while studying that is how you can make every single take of what you sing something completely different each time. I just love the concept of that.

.

.

.

Tell us your position on “Do It Yourself” and signing to a major label.

I think the Do It Yourself direction is definitely the way to go for artistic freedom. There are so many resources and outlets in place now to support this. But major labels, of course, have the huge machine and money behind them to expedite that process and promote on a massive scale. So, I think there are definitely pros and cons to each.

.

.

.

Tell us other activities you are pursuing apart from music.

Before the self-isolation, I was very into hot yoga. I know it’s not for everyone but for me it just really relaxes, strengthens and that heat feels like it detoxifies the body.

More recently, I’ve been doing a lot of zoom workouts with friends from around the country and also try to find some quiet time to meditate. During these times it’s been very helpful. I’m also into astrology and also love calming my mind with jewelry design.

.

.

.

List your various works.

I have three other songs that I’ve released on my current project. “Wide Awake”, “Anxiety” and “Intoxicated”. Go and check them out! They all have music videos available on YouTube and my website zandravibes.com that were so much fun putting together. We shot one in the hills of Los Angeles and the two others in Atlanta. Each of them tells a unique story and the images just made the stories much more powerful!

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

My artist’s name is Zandra and it’s a shortened version of my birth name, Alexandra.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

The song title is called “Don’t Wanna Leave” and it’s about knowing your self-worth in the context of a relationship. Being confident enough to know what you bring and valuing it.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title

My four new songs, “Wide Awake”, “Anxiety,” “Intoxicated” and “Don’t Wanna Leave” have all been released as singles. I think it’s more digestible to initially release songs as singles, initially as opposed to simply dropping a full album. Still working on an album title. It usually reveals itself reflecting the vibe and spirit of the final grouping of songs… but who knows…we’ll have to wait and see what’s on the horizon!
