Following the astounding reception of their 2015 EP, German psychedelic electronica trio Sea Moya are pleased to announce their expansive debut album, ‘Falmenta’ out on October 12th.

Recorded in a reclusive cabin in the Italian Alps above Lago Maggiore, the album is the result of total withdrawal from everyday life, the distraction of technology and any influence from outsiders. In this time the band were able to completely immerse themselves in their surroundings as well as introspectively, bouncing ideas off one-another until their creative output was very much as one. Every song and the lyrics written became a collaborative effort resulting in an album that is both surprisingly experimental and effortless in its presentation. This time was both intense and unique, making ‘Falmenta’ the bands most personal release to date.

The album is inspired by a wide-ranging and unexpected group of influences, an eclectic mixture of Krautrock, Afrobeat, and Electronic music. Sea Moya bring a lysergic haze of electronic funk, intertwined with vocal harmonies, playful experimentation and kraut rhythms to the most thrilling effect. Filtering analogue instrumentation through tape saturation, modular systems, and a vast array of effect pedals, this psychedelic beat outfit reshapes and cuts up their original ideas, thus producing a distinctive sound that is even reflected in their unique aesthetic.

You can hear echoes of the multi-instrumental psych of Tame Impala and the easy electronica of Toro Y Moi, just as much as William Onyeabor’s deconstructed African disco or J Dilla’s hazy production. New single ‘The Long Run’, is a perfect example of their beat-driven, rhythmic and genre-defying sound.

Following the recording of ‘Falmenta’, the band relocated to the vibrant Montreal and have embedded themselves into the thriving DIY underground there, playing shows across Canada and the US (including SXSW) and recording a live session with Music Is My Sanctuary at the Phi Centre.

Of the spontaneous move, the band tells us “At that time we listened to a bunch of great artists from Montreal like Homeshake, TOPS, Suuns or Project Pablo. It felt like there was a free spirited and open-minded music and arts scene going on. Even though none of us had ever been to Canada before, we just decided to give it a shot.

And here we are, moved in early 2018, already played a whole bunch of shows in Canada and the States, dived into the music scene in Montreal which is incredibly rich of DIY spirits, mesmerizing artists and an amazing mixed-up and buzzing culture of ALL couleurs. It feels like you can find your spot for every tiny niche you want to experiment with and all that pretty easy going and not too serious. It’s an inclusive and yet far out scene which makes it wild, buzzing and forward thinking. The move to Canada has been one of the most inspiring steps we took in our lives for now.”

Sea Moya was formed in summer 2014 in between shipping containers in a German harbor. Current band members are David Schnitzler (Vocals) and Elias Foerster (Bass), and the recent live addition of Tilman Ruetz (Drums), + a whole lot of synthesizers.

Solidifying her position as one of the most exciting up and coming names in the UK, North London vocalist Desta French shares the stylish and nostalgic new video for her killer track ‘Mention’.

The video see’s Desta and her crew adding an element of colourful, tongue in cheek fashionista attitude – juxtaposed against a grey, atmospheric London backdrop. “It’s set around the docklands area in south east London. I love to find places that feel magic, and like they could be anywhere on earth with just enough London sprinkles.”

Throughout the track, pensive lyrics tinged with anger meet head nod-inducing production, full of uncompromising attitude and scorned emotions. “The song is about being forced to spend a lot of time with someone that you’re paranoid is talking shit about you, and you feel is judging you because of your lifestyle. I can be very trusting by nature but also very intuitive which can lead to straight paranoia.” Desta explains.

Born to an Italian Father and Columbian Mother in Camden, Desta has been ingrained in a more animated culture from a young age. The influence of Desta’s upbringing on her sound is immediately apparent. It’s electric, soulful and intensely rhythmic, while the percussion draws inspiration from the sunny, oscillating movements of Latin America.

An incredibly strong start to the year has seen Desta sell out her debut Headline show and perform alongside the legendary Roy Ayers at The Jazz Café. With her debut EP ‘Immigracious’ set for release on October 12th, a further headline show at Richmix has now been announced on 8th November.

The new king of Jamaican reggaee music, Protoje recently released his new album ‘A Matter of Time’ via Mr Bongo (through licensing from In.Digg.Nation Collective and Overstand Entertainment) – the fourth album by the ascendant reggae star – who has scaled great heights and is now set to soar even higher.

Protoje will become the first Jamaican act in 35 years to grace the main stage at the Reading & Leeds Festival this summer. Steel Pulse appeared in 1983, but was forced to leave the stage after patrons threw bottles, demanding to see rock band The Stranglers.

Protoje is a forefront figurehead of an exciting resurgence of conscious, organic music in Jamaica known as The Reggae Revival, but with over 13 million streams last year and over 156 million YouTube views, his popularity has transcended any particular genre. This powerful songwriter and philosophical thinker articulates the righteous anger of an emerging generation and has rejuvenated the decaying art of socially responsible, mentally stimulating messages through witty wordplay and poetic language.

His forward-thinking new album channels a wide array of styles and sounds from reggae, dancehall, dub, hip hop, and even to rock into a cohesive and original whole. It maintains the essence of Jamaican roots music, whilst pushing the envelope in multiple new directions. “It’s not as traditional as my last album, but it’s still authentic”, explains Protoje. “It’s more innovative, more global and more experimental. I want to elevate reggae culture and the world’s perception of it”.

Protoje’s visibility has increased steadily and highly. Named on BBC 1xtra’s ‘Hot for 2015’ list, he has since appeared on BBC 2’s ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ recorded two sessions at BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale and been play listed at Radio 1 and 1xtra. He has sold out headline UK, US and European tours, and is a firm favourite at festivals throughout the world, performing at the likes of Glastonbury, Coachella and Afro-Punk. He is the first reggae act to be booked at Reading and Leeds in years, giving yet another indication of his cross cultural, universal appeal.

Protoje is an artist acutely aware of the passage of time, as evident by his previous album titles ‘7 Year Itch’, ‘The 8 Year Affair’, ‘Ancient Future’ and now ‘A Matter Of Time’. He describes time as “our biggest currency, which there’s never enough of” – but one thing is certain –is that his time is now.
